T-Aman cultivation on rise
JOYPURHAT, Sept 14: Local farmers have cultivated Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy on 72,135 hectares of land in the district this year. It is 183 ha more than this year's target.
Sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said this year's T-Aman farming target was 70,952 ha of land here, but 72,135 ha of land were cultivated. The production is 2.25 lakh metric tons of rice. After meeting the local demand, the extra rice will be sent to other districts, said the sources.
The DAE sources said farmers faced problem a bit due to lack of rain at the start of the season. They had to irrigate the land with water collected through shallow machine. But, rain happened later, and the problem was solved.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Serajul Islam said there is no problem for irrigation in the district now.
Deputy Director of Joypurhat DAE Sudhendra Nath Roy said no pest attack has been found in the T-Aman paddy lands so far. If the weather goes favourable till the end of the season, the farmers will get bumper yield.
