Sholakia Eidgah Terror Attack
23 people charge sheeted
KISHOREGANJ, Sept 12: Police here have pressed charges against 23 people in a terror attack at the Sholakia Eid congregation in 2016.
Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, Superintendent of Police of Kishoreganj, told the Daily Observer that the charge sheet was filed with the court on Wednesday.
"The investigation took longer as it was a sensitive case. All of the 23 people charged with the attack were involved with several other terror attacks in the country.
Eighteen of the terrorists have been killed in anti-terror raids while the remaining five are behind the bars," the police officer said at a media briefing.
On the morning of July 7 in 2016, when Muslims in Bangladesh were celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr, militants carried out a suicide attack near Sholakia Eidgah, killing four people.
Four people, including two policemen, a woman and a suspected assailant, died in the attack near the Eidgah A suspected militant, Abir Rahman, died on the scene while one housewife died after a stray bullet hit her in his house in the same neighbourhood.
Eight policemen and three pedestrians suffered injuries. The Sholakia incident came a week after the Gulshan café attack in Dhaka on July 1. The extremists had come equipped with guns, crude bombs and machetes.
