Bangladesh ODI Vice-Captain Shakib Al Hasan, who is the skipper of Bangladesh Test and T20i team, thinks that the Bangladesh players are full of confidence and their ultimate target is to clinch the Asian title, which ACC revealed in a press release published on their website on Monday.
The ace al-rounder joined with the team directly from the USA spending time with his family after performing the holly Hajj. Shakib supposed to be side-lined for finger injury but starting with fitness work and moving in the nets with the bat.
Shakib talked about Tigers pros and cons ahead of the Asia Cup. "We are confident enough. We had a very good series against West Indies, especially in ODIs and T20s. So, we will take that confidence into the Asia Cup. Both the teams (Afghanistan and Sri Lanka) have been playing good cricket especially in 50 overs, so we have to play our best to go into the next round," Shakib exposed the initial planning of the team.
"We want to take one game at a time, but obviously the ultimate goal is to win the trophy. This is what everyone is here for. To get that success, we need to get the process right. So, we will be looking more into our process rather than on the trophy," he added.
Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza put lot of emphasis on the inaugural match against Sri Lanka before flying for the UAE. Shakib atoned and said, "Sri Lanka is a very good side, and have a number of players who can win matches. So, we cannot focus on just one or two guys. Eleven players will be playing. So, we have to perform well against all of them."
Captain of team Sri Lanka, Angelo Matthews showed honour to both the group opponents. "This is Asia's mega tournament and it is being played every two years. It is a tournament all the teams take very seriously," Mathews complemented.
"We are really looking forward to this tournament, and playing against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. They are both top teams, and have been playing extremely good cricket and we looking forward to play really good cricket to beat them too," he expressed.
The 14th ACC Asia Cup 2018 kicks off with the match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on September 15. Besides Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will get Afghanistan in group-A and the encounter is scheduled to take place on September 20. India, Pakistan and Hong Kong will be playing in group-B.
Top two teams from each group will play in the super-4 round, where every team will face each other to determine the two finalists of the 14th edition of the Asian championship. Asian crown deciding final is scheduled to stage on September 28 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE.
