'Drug trader' killed in Rajshahi gunfight

An alleged drug trader was killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi district early Tuesday.

Son of late Ibrahim, deceased Dulal Mia, was a resident of Harihar village in the upazila.

With this, the number of deaths in anti-drugs crackdown stood at 224 across the country since May 12.

A gang of drug traders, numbering 10, engaged in a gunfight with the elite force early hours on Tuesday while the RAB men were patrolling  Mohanpur area.

At one stage, Dulal was caught in the line of fire, leaving him  seriously injured, said AFM Ashraful Islam, deputy commander of Rab-5.

After gunfight the RAB members rescued bullet-hit Dulal and took him to Mohanpur upazila health complex where the on duty doctors declared him dead.

A pistol, a bullet and 506 Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
