15 injured in clash during school football in Bauphal
At least 15 people were injured in clashes between two groups during the semi-final match of Inter School Football Tournament in Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali district.
One of the injured was admitted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. The incident occurred on Sunday on Bauphal Model Secondary School field.
Witnesses said the match was held between Bauphal Model Secondary School and Nazirpur Chhoto-Dalima Secondary School. Chhoto-Dalima school was leading in the match by 3-0 against the host team till 85 minutes of the match.
The clash ensued five minutes before the end of the match when a player of the Bauphal Model Secondary School kicked the goalkeeper of Choto-Dalima school.
The students of Bauphal school locked the two gates of their school and beat the players and supporters of Chhoto Dalima school with sticks and iron rods.
Police from the Bauphal police station went to the spot and took control of the situation. At least 15 people, including Ebaidul, Biplob, Sujon, Rahat, Karim, Jamal, Hemayet and Bashir were injured in the clash. Biplob was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Mahbub Alam, Headmaster of Nazirpur Choto-Dalima Secondary School, said the students of Bauphal Model Secondary School launched a surprise attack on our students.
Bauphal Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pijus Chandra Dey said, after
about two hours of discussion with two school teachers in his office on Monday,
Nazirpur Choto-Dalima Secondary School was declared winner by 3-0 difference. “We’ve
also changed the venue for next matches,” he added.
