Sharmin Sultana Sumi is one of the founding members of the internationally celebrated band Chirkutt. She started the band in 2002. Sumi has also received the Ananya Shirsha Dosh award at Bangla Academy recently.

Currently busy with...We are preparing for an abroad tour so currently we are being occupied for its procedure. There are some upcoming projects we will be working on but don't want to disclose it now. Lastly we are busy with our music, some playback singing and making music videos.

The story of 'Chirkutt'...Back in 2002 when I was a student of International Relations, I formed the band with my university mates. There were some ups and downs but now we are in stable condition and established. In 2010, our first album was released. Later in 2013 and 2017 we have released two albums.

Any plan to release new album?Right now there is no plan for releasing new album.

Tell us about your musical journey, did it start from very early childhood? Well, not likely. There was always musical environment in my family. I have a music teacher but I was very reluctant.

Leisure activities...I hardly get any leisure. But whenever I get time i try to spend it with my family members.

Favourite hobby...I love travelling.

Memorable incident...We performed in Rastrapati Bhaban of India. That is really memorable. There is a sad memorable incident of my life, my father's death.

Inspiration...I take inspiration from our life and surroundings. I take inspiration from anyone who is bringing change in society. It could be any renowned one or any simple person.

Philosophy of life...You have to value people. Give respect to them. Love the people in your life.

Future plan...I do not bother much about future. I value the present more. I believe. If my present is good, the future will always be bright.
