Siemens to build 3600 MW LNG based power plant at Payra

Local North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with German-based Siemens AG for building 3600 MW LNG-based power plant at Payra in Patuakhali district.

NWPGCL Secretary Dipak Kumar Dhali and President (Gas and Power division) Richard Clayton Reising of Siemens signed the agreement on behalf of the respective institutions at hotel Westin in Dhaka city on Saturday, reports BSS.

“The project will add 1200 megawatt electricity to the national grid by 2021 and rest of 2400 megawatt electricity will be added in the next year,” NWPGCL Chief Executive Officer AM Khurshedul Alam told the signing ceremony.

Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Engineer Khaled Mahmood and German Deputy Head of Mission Michael Schultheiss attended the function.

The project is the largest in the country in terms of capacity and first ever LNG-To-Power Project in Bangladesh.
