Seven police officers were killed as Taliban members carried out attacks in some security checkpoints in Mangajek district of Afghanistan’s northern Jawzjan province on Friday.

“A group of Taliban rebels attacked some security checkpoints in Mangajek district in the wee hours of Friday triggering gun battle which lasted for several hours and resulted in killing seven police personnel,” said Provincial Council Babir Eshci, reports Xinhua.

Taliban insurgents have also suffered casualties in the fighting, the official said.

However, he warned that the embattled Mangajek district would collapse if the government fails to send reinforcement.

Meantime, Taliban outfit has confirmed the clash and asserted that they had captured two security checkpoints besides inflicting casualties on security personnel.
