Former DU VC AKM Siddiq passes away

The former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr. AKM Siddiq died of old age complications at the age of 96 at his own residence in Gulshan in Dhaka on Friday afternoon about 3:00 PM, sources said.

Dr. AKM Siddiq, a professor of DU physics department, served as vice chancellor of Dhaka University from 21 March, 1983 to 16 August, 1983 and as pro vice-chancellor from 24 August 1981 to 22 August 1985.

His first namaj-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan after Isha prayer. His body will be laid at his hometown Manikgonj today (Saturday).

DU vice chancellor Prof Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman and Pro Vice chancellor (administration) Prof Dr. Muhammad Samad expressed deep shock at his death in a statement, said a DU press release.

Meanwhile DU former vice chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique also expressed profound shock at the death of Prof AKM Siddiq.
