“Chocolate”-third film from Josim picked for western audience
Three back-to-back shorts by noted director Josim Ahmed have achieved distribution rights in prominent markets in US and Europe. Shorts International, an iconic content promoter in US and Europe has had undertaken the responsibility to screen the films. Josim Ahmed's most recent film "Chocolate" is the third one on the list. The film's on harassment of women. The twenty-minute-long film is in its final phases of production.
Shorts International is popular for promoting Oscar nominated short films every year in these markets. It distributed previous two short films by Josim Ahmed- Daag and A Pair of Sandals in the west. "Chocolate" will be released on Shorts International's dedicated satellite channel "Short TV", airplane, mobile, VOD and online platforms.
About his endeavour to direct a film on harassment of women Josim Ahmed said, "Everyday women are being harassed one way or another. I have tried to project an uncommon scenario of the situation." What he is referring to is the molestation of female-children by their near-dear ones right at home. The issue is not usually taken up in works addressing women harassment.
The cast of "Chocolate" features powerful actors like Shatabdi Wadud, Azizul Hakim, Golam Farida Chanda and also Shilpi Sarkar Apu as the child-protagonist.
It might be mentioned that both of the two previous shorts directed by Josim Ahmed were selected in Cannes International Film Festival first before being picked by Shorts International. Now the next Cannes Film Fest is still some months away and Shorts International have decided to get ahead of the race this time for selecting Josim Ahmed's short films. Whether "Chocolate" would figure in the list in Cannes next year time will tell.
