Court orders authority to give Shahidul status as per jail code
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday ordered the jail authority to give noted photographer Shahidul Alam, who is now in jail in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology Act, appropriate status as per the jail code.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shaifuzzaman Hero issued the order.
Drik Gallery owner Shahidul's lawyer Barrister Jotirmoy Barua prayed to the court to grant him status as he is a noted citizen of the country.
Earlier on August 6, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court placed Shahidul on a seven-day remand in the case. After a week-long remand he was sent to jail on August 12.
Earlier, a case under the ICT Act had been filed against Shahidul, who is also the managing director of Drik Gallery. He was charged with sharing videos on social media that incited violence in the ongoing student-led movement for road safety.
