Fire breaks out at 6-storey building

A devastating fire broke out at a six-storey building in Pabna district town early Monday, burning down at least 15 business establishments, including bank and insurance offices.

The fire originated in the ground floor of 'Biswas Bhaban' around 4:45am and soon engulfed the 1st and 2nd floors, said M Saiful Islam, an assistant director at Pabna Fire Service and Civil Defence.

On information, seven fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after three hours of hectic efforts, Saiful Islam added.

He also said the the fire caused loss around Tk 5 crore.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of the district Jasim Uddin and Superintendent of Police Sheikh Rafiqul Islam visited the spot.
