Not about the length of life, but it's about the depth of life
Short stories can be less about storytelling than something harder to wrap up. Perhaps emotional pitch or compression of character: one vibrant element that we hold in our minds long after the imaginary tale is finished, reminding us almost in the flesh. The time is limited and the blow that the author needs to have on the reader has to be that much more instantaneous than in the case of a story. And yet, when ended properly, the shorter format can be an ecstasy to read. Quite a few young writers are talented in doing just that, like Mehedi Shamim.
The author, sometimes, told a story of a man who wants to be happy in his life and he actually means it and ready to do set him on the battle for happiness, sometimes the author drew the equation of human relationships and the journey of getting happiness. Some stories are almost not reached the end, but the reader can pencil in the finishing. Interestingly, readers can join the sensation of storytelling with the author. Shamim focused on society, relationship, life, clash, acceptance, ignorance, and sense of belongings in his stories. He upheld the picture of our social system. He criticized our social life and offered some solution of our so called social problems through the stories as well. Sometimes, he focused on the reality of life sometimes on the imagination and wishes.
'TolpiTolparGolpo' published by Chinno Patra Prakshoni in Amar Ekushe GronthoMela 2018.The first story of the book "Budh" is all about a man who lives in the fantasy of happiness, although his life is nothing but full of sorrow, tragedy, and all the complex equation of life. In the second story "Ator Ali Brittanto" is the story of a local journalist who feels insecure about his life and career. This story has certainly been outlined a professional and personal life story of local (mofossol) journalists.
"Sei JoarerLozzaNei" is the third story of this book which has depicted our social classes, social norms, and ethics and how these things are upsetting our life. Without having political perception a person could not decide his/her role in society as well as the country and which led a person towards worst things to do like militancy. Shamim put into words this message through his fourth story "Akjob Bonik Attohontta Korecilo Poroborti Jiboner Lobhe". Our life is changing every day, in fact, in every moment. We are moving ahead through ups and downs. All of our decisions are not correct in the long run, although we are taking the best one of the options. "Paddle" the fifth story of this book essence, our life, our decision making and how these things carry our life ahead. In the sixth story of TolpiTolpar Golpo titled "Ki KothaTaharSathe" is epitome the shades of human relationship. Where relationship there is a suspicious mind around is it factual or not? How the doubtful mind brings the crisis in our life, this story revealed that scenarios. "Chotuskon" the second last story of this volume is acquainted with the tale of four different persons. In this story, readers will find four different perspectives which make our life complex. Chotuskon is a story of our sense accountability. The last narrative of this book is "Aronno Proman Korecilo Se Asole Jungle Na" is a love story of the teenage couple.
Without wanting to take away all the surprise from the book, it is safe to say that the author has done a fantastic job with all the stories in the collection. Although some of the tales may seem to not have a point in the first read, they seem to grow on you when you have a go at it for a second time. Some stories will truly connect with the reader on a personal level while others drive social norms, classes, and complexity, whichever side of the fence you may sit on.
