The burial of a deceased lawyer was deferred over the conflict of his two wives centering ownership of his land and property in Satkhira.
Md Yaar Ali, 80, resident of Kalaroa upazila of the district, died of brain stroke on Monday at 8.00 am at Khulna Medical College hospital.
Body started rotting and its burial process is still stopped after 36 hours over feud of his successors from two wives.
According to the family source, Yaar had two wives. First wife has four daughters and two sons while second wife has one son. He registered his 30 bigahs of land, house and bank balance for his second wife and son only, and this made the first wife’s children angered. They are now demanding ownership of the part of the property before burial.
Advocate Abul Hussain Mia, president of Satkhira Bar Association, along with Kalaroa police station OC Maruf Ahmed and Kaila UP chairman Imran Hussain on Tuesday tried to solve the feud but failed.
UP chairman Imran said there is odour and bleeding from the body.
Advocate Hasnath Kabir, son of Yaar Ali’s first wife, said his father deprived them from land and home ownership. The body will not be allowed to bury before the settlement of ownership, he added.
Second wife agreed to settle property ownership on condition of having possession of seven bighas land, said the UP member.
Advocate Abul Hussain said he filed an appeal with Satkhira court to solve the matter, and the court issued order for the burial immediately.
Kalaroa police OC said burial will be completed upon receiving the court order.
