2 killed in gun-battle

Two suspected drug traders were killed in a 'shootout' with the members of police at Koyar Beel area in Satkhira Sadar upazila early Sunday.

With this, the number of deaths stood at 190 across the country since May 12.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 40, son of Abul Kashem, and Delwar Hossain, 38, son of Abdul Gani.

Sadar Police Station OC Maruf Ahmed said police arrested Delwar and Kalam along with some hemp and Phensedyl syrups from Banshdaha Bazar on Saturday afternoon.

According to their confessional statement, a team of police conducted a drive in Koyer Beel around 2am.

Sensing presence of the police team, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing the police personnel to fire back for self-defence.

After the gunfight, police recovered the bodies of Delwar and Kalam from the spot.

They were rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared the duo dead.

Police also recovered three kilograms of hemp, 29 bottles of Phensedyl syrup, a shooter-gun, a bullet and four mobile sets from their possessions.
