7 killed in road mishaps in five dists
At least seven people were killed and 17 others injured in separate road accidents in five districts- Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Joypurhat, Noakhali and Kishoreganj, in three days.
JAMALPUR: At least two passengers of a three-wheeler were killed and two others injured in a road mishap on Jamalpur-Mymensingh road on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 42, son of Mofazzal Hossain of Munsipara Village in Jamalpur Town and an unidentified eight-year old girl.
Fire service sources said a passenger-loaded CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from Mymensingh collided head-on with a truck at Chhankanda area near Jamalpur Town, leaving one killed on the spot and three injured.
Fire fighters rushed to the spot and took the injured to Jamalpur General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared Mosharraf Hossain dead.
MYMENSINGH: Two persons including a police constable were killed and eight others injured in a road accident at Digarkanda By-pass Intersection in the district town on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as police constable Md Saiful Islam, 45, hailed from Jhenaigati of Sherpur and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Abul Hashem, 28, of Phulbaria upazila of Mymensingh.
Constable Saiful Islam was going to his home for Eid vacation.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station (PS) Khandakaer Shaker Ahmed said a Mymensingh bound truck hit five CNG-run auto-rickshaws beside the intersection around 7:30 am, leaving Saiful dead on the spot and nine others injured.
The injured persons were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Hashem succumbed to his injuries.
Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee. A case was filed in this connection.
JOYPURHAT: A member of Truck Workers' Union was crushed under the wheels of truck while taking extortion at Triptir crossing area near rail gate of the district town on Tuesday midnight.
The victim was identified as Toslim Uddin, 31, son of Tahsinuddin of Biswaspara Mohalla.
Confirming the incident, Inspector of Joypurhat PS Mominul Haque said Toslim used to collect extortion from different vehicles in the area. On Tuesday night, Toslim was crushed under the wheels of a truck when a speedy microbus hit him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police seized the truck, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
NOAKHALI: A bus driver was killed and 15 others were injured in an accident on Dhaka-Noakhali road at Chashirhat Bazaar in Sonaimuri Upazila here on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Parvez, 29, son of Abdur Rahim of Amki area in the upazila.
The injured could not be identified immediately.
Local sources said driver of the Noakhali-bound bus of Himachal Express from Dhaka lost control over steering at the said area at 8am and rammed into a roadside shop, leaving the bus driver dead on the spot and 15 injured.
Sonaimuri PS OC Md Nasim Uddin confirmed the incident and said the injured were admitted to local hospital.
KISHOREGANJ: A college student was killed in a road accident on Kishoreganj-Bhairab highway at Dariakandi Village in Kuliarchar Upazila here on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Rais Akik, 17, son of Ratan Mia of Tinpatti Village in Bhairab Upazila of the district.
The deceased was returning Bhairab from Kuliarchar by a motorcycle when he lost control over it and dashed against a roadside electric pole at the said area, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead.
Bhairab Highway PS OC AKM Kawsar confirmed the news. A case was filed in this connection.
