Road accidents kill 11 in four districts

At least 11 people were killed and 11 others wounded in separate road accidents in Noakhali, Bogura, Shariatpur and Sirajganj on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

In Shariatpur
, three workers were killed and six others injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Khelsi area under Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Md Rahmat Hossain, 40, Naim Hossain, 25, and Idris, 60, a residents of Chetua area in Ashasuni upazila of Satkhira.

Niaz Mohammad, deputy assistant director of Shariatpur Fire Service and Civil Defence, the driver of a paddy-laden truck carrying 12 workers lost control over the steering and plunged into a roadside ditch around 10:30pm, leaving the trio dead on the spot and six others wounded.

The injured were admitted to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.

In Sirajganj, three people were killed and three others wounded when a truck collided head-on with a covered van around 7:30am Sunday on the Pabna-Bogura highway in Raiganj uapzila.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

In Noakhali, two people were killed and another was wounded in a blast of an auto-rickshaw cylinder in Companir Hat area under Sadar upazila this morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Sudhram Model Police Station OC Anwar Hossain said athe cylinder of a Sonapur-bound three-wheeler exploded when the auto-rickshaw hit hard a roadside tree the driver lost control over the steering around 6am, leaving one dead on the spot and two burn injured.

One of the injured died on way to hospital.

In Bogura, three masons were killed and one was injured when a covered van ran over them from behind in Chhonka area under Sherpur upazila on Sunday morning, leaving three dead on the spot and one wounded.

The deceased were identified as Mohsin Ali, Sadeque Ali and Shah Mahmud.

Kundarhat police outpost SI Kajol Kumar Nondi confirmed the accident.
