Railway Minister M Mujibul Haq on Thursday said the government is planning to construct circular railway surrounding the Dhaka city for eliminating traffic gridlock in the capital.

Under the plan, a feasibility study for constructing circular railway has been approved by the Planning Commission on December 27 in 2017, targeting to reduce traffic gridlock in the Dhaka city.

The railway minister said this while responding to a tabled question placed by treasury bench member M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 at the House.

To this end, the initiative for appointing consultant has been taken under the feasibility study project, he said.

The investment project will be taken for constructing the circular railway after completion of the feasibility, the minister added, adding that “if  the project should be implemented it would be helpful for eliminating the traffic gridlock of the Dhaka City.”
