Farzana Islam made JU VC for 2nd term

Professor Farzana Islam has been reappointed as the Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for second consecutive term.

President Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of  the varsity, made the appointment.

A circular was published in this regard on Thursday morning, confirmed Prof Farzana Islam.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and the UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan congratulated her over telephone, she added.

Born in Bhedarganj upazila of Shariatpur in 1957, Farzana Islam completed her post-graduation from Sociology department at Dhaka University in 1980. She joined Chittagong University as a lecturer in 1982. In 1986, she joined the Anthropology department of Jahangirnagar University.

She was appointed as the country’s first female VC in a public university on March 2, 2014. Her first tenure will end March 2 this year .
