Injured Laxmipur journalist dies at DMCH
Laxmipur: Journalist Shah Monir Polash, who received injuries in an attack by his cousins,
died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Thursday.
Son of Monir Hossain, Polash, 28, was a correspondent of local daily Dainik Rupbani.
The death sparked a wave of protest when residents of Machhimnagar village in Sadar upazila staged demonstration demanding punishment to the killers.
Quoting locals, police said Polahs's cousins Abu Yusuf And Abu Sayed threw brick to his father as he prevented them from cutting trees of their garden around 9pm on Wednesday.
They also beat up Polash with iron rod as he tried to protect his father, leaving the journalist critically injured.
Polash was first admitted to Sadar Hospital before being shifted to Noakhali. Doctors referred Polash to the DMCH following deterioration of his condition where he succumbed at early hours.
Police detained Abu Yusuf's wife in this connection but Yusuf and Sayed went into into hiding.
Laxmipur Sadar Police Station OC Rezaul Karim said Polash was beaten to death over land dispute.
