FBCCI, TBBC for boosting trade, investment between BD, Turkey
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) emphasized on joint venture in readymade garment (RMG), leather, Information Technology, agro based industries and other potential sectors with Turkey.
Turkish businesses also expressed their keen interest to import more goods from Bangladesh and resolved to work more closely to further boost the bilateral trade.
The leaders of FBCCI also put emphasis on factory and technology transfer from Turkey, at a meeting with a delegation of Turkey-Bangladesh Business Council (TBBC) at FBCCI office in the capital on Wednesday.
Ms. Laura Gok, Chairperson of Turkey-Bangladesh Business Council led the Turkey delegation and FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) led their respective sides. FBCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Fazle Fahim also took part in the discussion.
The Turkish delegation also included Murat Yarat, Commercial Councellor of Turkish Embassy and Ms. Tulin Avci, Assistant Coordinator of the Council.
FBCCI Directors Rejaul Kariem Rejnu, Md. Abu Naser, Masud Parvez Khan Imran and Nizamuddin Rajesh also participated in the discussion.
FBCCI President expressed his interest to establish joint venture in RMG, leather, IT, and agro based industries with Turkey.
The FBCCI Chief mentioned that, Bangladesh achieved consistent GDP growth of over 6 per cent during the last couple of years and above 7 per cent GDP growth in the past two years.
Bangladesh is close to transforming into a middle income country by, 2021, he mentioned.
The FBCCI Chief told about the lucrative investment facilities provided by Bangladesh Government including Tax Holiday, Double Taxation, Corporate Tax Incentive etc. and invited the Turkey Businessmen to invest or set up joint ventures in Economic Zones or outside the EZ's.
Ms. Laura Gok, Chairperson of Turkey-Bangladesh Business Council expressed her deep interest to import more products from Bangladesh. She also laid emphasis on working the both parties more closely to further boost up the bilateral trade.
FBCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Fazle Fahim, in the meeting, said that they will revisit the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between FBCCI and TBBC to focus the future plan for exploring markets and potential sectors to invest.
Fahim also sought knowledge transfer from Turkey to faster the development process of Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned that, Bangladesh exported goods worth $ 631.63 million to Turkey in 2016-17 and imported products valued at $ 212.30 million.
The principal exports of Bangladesh to Turkey are Woven Garments, Jute and Jute goods, Knitwear, Manmade filaments and staple fibers, Ceramic products and Home Textile etc.
The import items from Turkey are Machinery and mechanical appliance, electrical equipment, Textiles and Textile Articles, Products of the Chemical or Allied Industries and Plastics & Rubber Articles etc.
