BSMMU Pro-VC ASM Zakaria Swapan dies
Prof ASM Zakaria Swapan, a Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University or BSMMU, has died.
After a long battle with liver cancer, the 54-year-old breathed his last on Wednesday at the BSMMU Hospital.
He was pronounced dead around 11:45am, BSMMU spokesperson Prasunto Majumder told bdnews24.com.
A dermatologist, Swapan was in charge of the university's educational affairs as one of the two pro-VCs.
Born in Mymensingh, he graduated from the Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1988.
Swapan served as the proctor of BSMMU between 2009 and 2015, before being appointed as a pro-VC in 2016.
He was the joint secretary general of the pro-Awami League doctors' forum, the Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad and had also served as the general secretary of its BSMMU chapter. —bdnews24.com
