Rangamati: A dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) got underway in the district on Tuesday protesting attack on district committee assistant general secretary Supayan Chakma.
All business establishments remained close since the morning while public transports, including water vessels, went off the road.
BCL leaders and activists took position in different places of the district since morning.
District unit BCL president Abdul Jabbar said that the hartal is going on peacefully.
Vehicles carrying SSC examinees are out of hartal purview.
A group of people beat up Supayan on Monday evening when he was returning home after a cricket match.
Following the attack, the BCL leaders and activists staged demonstration in the district at night.
At one stage, a clash ensued between police and the agitating BCL men.
Police fired blank shots and tear gas shells to disperse them, leaving some leaders, activists and a local journalist injured.
The BCL, later, announced the hartal for today.
