Students of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday staged demonstration on the campus demanding cancellation of 7 colleges' affiliation with the university.
Hundreds of students of the university formed human chain in front of Aparajeyo Bangla, blocked road near Teacher-Student Center (TSC) and then brought out procession towards Vice Chancellor office of DU.
The students chanted slogans-‘Cancel affiliated seven colleges to protect DU honor’, 'Our only one demand scrapping affiliation of 7 colleges with DU’.
DU VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman met the agitating students and told them that DU campus is only for university students, not for affiliated students.
“They (affiliated students) would not be facilitated like the actual students of the university,” he added.
Getting no assurance from VC, they went to Anti-terrorist Raju Sculpture and blocked road for an hour that causes huge traffic gridlock.
Later, the movement convener, Moshiur Rahman Sadik, announced that they will boycott all classes on Monday. They also threatened to lock all faculties’ gate of the university tomorrow to intensify the boycott.
Earlier on Thursday, the students demonstrated on the campus over the same demand, saying seven affiliated colleges students are introducing themselves as students of DU and engaging in misdeeds.
The government has recently affiliated Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College with Dhaka University.
