Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed after six hours and Shimulia-Kathalbari route after four hours of disruption caused by heavy fog on Sunday morning.

"Paturia-Daulatdia route ferry services kept suspended since 4:30am due to poor visibility caused by thick fog," said Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha.

Later, the ferry service resumed around 10:30 am as the fog disappeared, Nasir added.

Meanwhile, ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the Padma River resumed after four hours of disruption.

Shah Newaz Khalid, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said ferry services on the river route came to a complete halt from 6am to avoid accident.

Four ferries were stranded with thousands of passengers in the mid-river, causing immense sufferings to passengers amid chilling cold weather.

The ferry services on the busy route resumed around 10:15 am after the visibility returns, said the BIWTC official.
