Rahmatganj escape certain relegation
Farashganj to be downgraded to BCL
The Old Dhaka team Rahmatganj Muslim Friend Society had surely passed their best ever day of the league this season on Saturday as the boys escaped a certain relegation registering a 2-0 win over stronger Saif Sporting Club in their last match of Bangladesh Premier League 2017.
Rahmatganj moved two steps up to place 10th with 18 points after winning the match while Saif SC failed to place third losing point on the day.
The calculation was like that the Old Dhaka boys had to win the match or they had to face relegation since they were at the 12th place with only 15 points and Farashganj were at the 11th place with 17 points.
In the meantime, Dhaka Abahani and Sheikh Jamal had confirmed the champions and runner-up titles of the league. The Abahani boys secured 52 points and the Jamal boys 47 points. Chittagong Abahani who were also in the race to title previously before stumbling in the second phase of the league had to stay satisfied with the third place with 44 points.
The newbie team of the league this season, Saif SC, were at the fourth place with 41 points. The traditional black and white jerseys Mohammedan Sporting Club were right behind Saif with 32 points.
Now, another Old Dhaka club Farashganj are facing the relegation to Bangladesh Championship League.
Earlier, newbie teams Bashundhara Kings became champions of Bangladesh Championship League 2016-17 while another newbie NoFeL (Noakhali, Feni and Laxmipur) became runners-up and secured their spots in the next edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
