Online platform for writing
Have you ever questioned the online platforms where general people share amazing stories? I never did. A few decades back, it was not even a possibility. Now, we can easily visualize a newspaper like The Daily Prophet from Harry Potter movie series, and we actually have news media where video and animation is a reality by all means.
People read newspapers on their smartphones, tablets and other digital devices these days. In near future, we might not even feel the necessity of papers. We need to understand the justification why do we actually choose online platforms for writing or expressing ourselves?
A couple of years back, I was desperately looking for a job. Journalism used to be one of my fascinations in those days. I applied for the post of an intern sub-editor in a renowned daily. The writing test went well and I got a call for a face-to-face interview.
I was very excited as there were only 5/6 candidates. Naturally, the stakes were high. After the interview, I realized one important thing. They did not like my interest in blogs and open platforms. To them, the medium is mediocre, not acceptable to the elites. I guess the people in the interview did not read the blogs of Pat Flynn or Maria Popova at any point of their lives.
You have to feel for these talented people. They missed the whole point of online media. I must acknowledge that I have some strong reasons for choosing online platforms. Today I want to share some of the delightful advantages of writing online.
Embed a video, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or Instagram post:
Speaking of Harry Potter, I could not resist the temptation of sharing a video with you. For now, we only have visual effects. However, it is totally possible online. It is not only YouTube by the way. We have other popular video resources with embedding options.
Get instant feedback:
Almost all popular platforms allow you to comment on the posts. Yes, it is sometimes catastrophic as some people would take advantage of the system and curse others without reason. Besides, you have to spend a considerable amount of time to moderate and respond to queries.
Make necessary changes:
Newspapers take great care in publishing a piece. The news agencies verify and sometimes reverify. When it comes to authentic resources, online resources are somewhat questionable. If you are writing from your smartphone, there is a greater chance of missing useful and vital information. Eventually, you have to make necessary changes to your initial post. You have every right to do that when you are doing things online.
Do you love the online versions of BBC, CNN or Al Jazeera? You have to. You get the news updates every hour and you can stay tuned round the clock. The power of real-time updates is clearly demonstrated by the major media houses. You can check the updates on the run, and edit your online posts from Android or other applications.
At the end of the day, we crave for authenticity in our reading materials. The emerging popularity of social media and the surge of internet users force us to turn to online media more and more. Personally, I feel the balance is vital under the circumstances. The power of individual knowledge and wisdom will play the major role in the upcoming days if we want to add value to online writings. You can choose online platforms but you have to be committd about the sources of your contents.
