Bangladesh start U-19 campaign from today
The 12th edition of ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2018 starts from today (Saturday). This time New Zealand will host the tournament. Bangladesh U-19 will face Namibia in the opening day in the Group-C match at Christchurch. Canada and England are the two other teams in their group.
The young team will lead by Saif Hassan, the highly-rated opener. He has been captain for the last two years for the Bangladesh U-19 team. Saif and Pinak Ghosh played the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, where Bangladesh reached the semi-final for the first time. Apart from these two, Bangladesh will depend on Afif Hossain and Towhid Hridoy for their runs.
Young Tigers have played three practice matches in preparation for the contest. They played two matches against local side and the other match was against Afghanistan U-19. Last practice match against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain.
So far in this competition Bangladesh U-19 achieved their highest success by claiming the 3rd spot on 2016 at home. Then skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz was named the man of the tournament.
