Jahangirnagar University (JU) Day was observed on Friday on the campus marking the 47th founding anniversary of the university.
The daylong programme included hoisting of national and university flags, discussion, cultural function and a colourful procession by students, teachers, and officials on the campus.
The JU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the programmes of the day on the premises of Business Studies Faculty.
She said, "Since 48 years of establishment of the university, teachers and students have been contributing to different sectors at national and international levels."
"The reputation and glory of the university has increased since the inception of the university," added Prof Farzana.
JU Pro VC (Administration) Prof Dr Amir Hussain, Pro VC (Academic) Prof Dr Abul Hossain, Treasurer Prof Sheikh Md Mozurul Huq, Former VC Shariff Enamul Kabir, and former student also the VC of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University were present among others.
The JU Pro VC (Administration) Prof Dr Amir Hussain, in his speech, vowed to go forward to establish the JU as a model university overcoming all hindrances.
Marking the day, Ekramul Haque Shuvo, a former student of History Department organised a photo exhibition titled ‘Oitijjher 48 Bochor’ at the central cafeteria premises where he displayed various photographs of different times of the campus.
VC Prof Dr Farzana visited the photo exhibition event, among others.
Founded on August 20, 1970, Jahangirnagar University formally began its academic activities as a residential university on January 12, 1971 with four departments, 21 teachers, 150 students and three halls.
Now, the university has more than 14,500 students, 672 teachers, 35 departments under six faculties and four institutes for special research and training.
