Simmons coming to Dhaka on Saturday for interview for coach
Former Caribbean all-rounder and coach Phil Simmons will come to Dhaka on Saturday to appear in the interview for the post of Bangladesh national cricket team's head coach. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon informed it to the media on Wednesday.
Former Bangladesh coach Richard Pybus appeared in the interview on Wednesday. He came to Dhaka on Tuesday. He has already submitted his proposal. After the interview of Pybus, Papon talked to the media and informed the name of the other possible coaches.
He said, "Phil Simmons will come on December 9. Another candidate is supposed to come before him. I will not disclose his name as date is not fixed yet and we did not get the final confirmation. We are also talking to some more coaches."
It is learned that before Simmons, former Aussie cricketer and coach Geoff Marsh may come to face the interview. BCB boss informed they will take the final decision regarding coach on Sunday in the board meeting. So the interested persons should come before that.
However, Phil Simmons played 26 Tests and 143 ODIs for West Indies. After his retirement from cricket he was appointed as the coach of Zimbabwe in 2004. But he was terminated controversially in next year. From 2007 to 20015 he was coach of Ireland and did it successfully. Then he took the responsibility as the coach of West Indies and the Caribbean team won the World T20 in 2016. But due some problems with the board he had to leave the job in last September.
