GDP growth hits 7.28pc, per capita income $1,610
Gross domestic product (GDP) growth of Bangladesh surpassed the set target, and stood at 7.28 percent this fiscal year, breaking all the previous records.
Per capita income increased to $1,610 which is equivalent to BDT 1,28,800.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) revealed the disclosure in the final report for 2016-17 FY at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said GDP growth surpassed the 7.24 percent target and reached 7.28 percent in the Fiscal Year.
He said that a total of 10 projects were approved involving an overall cost of Tk 3,333 crore. "All the estimated project costs will come from the national exchequer."
The Planning Minister said the Sheikh Hasina Cantonment will be set up on a 965-acre land and the project will be implemented by the Ministry of Defence by June 2021.
