'Titu Roy arrested for his blasphemous post on FB'
Police have arrested Titu Roy for allegedly posting a blasphemous photo on social media that triggered an arson attack on Rangpur Hindu houses, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Titu was arrested from Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district on Monday night, said the minister before attending a rally on Tuesday.
Rangpur district police organised the rally on communal harmony at Harkoli Madrasa ground in Thakurpara area under Khaleya union.
On November 5, Titu Roy, son of late Khogen Roy in Harkoli Thakurpara area, allegedly made the Facebook post demeaning Islam that sparked a strong protest.
The protesters torched eight Hindu houses and locked in a clash with law enforcers that left one dead by bullet and 25, including seven cops, injured.
Later, police filed two cases over the incident with Kotwali and Gangachara police stations.
"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. None will be spared if found guilty to destroy the harmony," the minister said sounding a note of warning.
He also said that no allegation of negligence has yet been received against police.
"Action will be taken if any proof of negligence against law enforcers was found," he said.
