Saif SC take revenge on Dhaka Abahani
The newbie challengers of Saif Sporting Club took revenge of their defeat to Dhaka Abahani in the first phase by beating the same rivals in the second phase by 2-1 margin on Monday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
Winning the match, the Saif boys not only took the revenge on the traditional sky blue brigade, they also move to the second place toppling Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd, another promising challenger of the title this year.
After the match, Saif boys had 25 points from 12 matches while Dhaka Abahani had 24 points from the same number of matches.
With the match, the second phase of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football 2017 also kicked off.
In the meantime, all the big budget teams tried to polish their front men recruiting skilled booters during the player transfer window for the second phase.
Both, Saif and Abahani fielded their new editions in the match to show their strength. Dhaka Abahani recruited Sunday Chizoba, an experienced Nigerian booter of BPL, who returned with a new haircut on the day.
On the other hand, Saif got 'goal machine' Wedson Anselme who returned from East Bengal of Kolkata recently.
Wedson proved his worth by beginning the second phase of the league with a 34-minute goal for Saif.
The winners doubled the lead with a 75-minute goal of Charlie Sheringham.
However, Sunday Nwadialu reduced the margin for Dhaka Abahani netting a solace in the dying minute. But, they had no chance to restore the parity before the long whistle.
