Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj was added as the seventh venue to host the matches of ninth Bangladesh Premier League that is going to began from July 24 in Chittagong.
Professional Football League Committee on Saturday decided to add Gopalganj in the list as the venue have required facilities to host the matches.
Usually the BPL matches are used to be played at the Bangabandhu National Stadium which is the premier football venue in the country. But from this year, BPL is planned to be played at different venues in home-and-away system.
Beforehand, it was planned to host the event at six venues including the BNS, the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, Rajshahi Stadium, Barisal District Stadium, Sylhet District Stadium and Mymensingh Stadium.
Gopalganj stadium is situated in the Court Masjeed area in Sadar Upazila which is a associates football stadium. Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra began using the stadium as their home venue from 2012-13 season.
The venue is capable to hold fifteen thousand spectators including seating arrangement for five thousand.
Now it was decided to play two rounds of matches at four venues each while three venues will host one round each.
In the meantime on June 29, Jaj Bhuiyan Group, a renowned textile manufacturer in the country, became the title sponsor of Bangladesh Premier League for one year as an agreement was signed between Saif Global Sports Ltd managing director Tarafder M Ruhul Amin and Jaj Bhuiyan Group chairman and managing director Eng. Fayazur Rahman Bhuiyan.
Before that on June 11, a five-year agreement of Bangladesh Premier League was signed between Bangladesh Football Federation and Saif Global Sports Ltd thru which the sporting company, a concern of Saif Power Tech, got the right of the league for five years from the Federation.
Saif Power Tech, afterwards, signed famous folk singer Momtaz Begum as the brand ambassador of the sporting event.
Twelve teams including Dhaka Abahani, Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd Dhaka, Soccer Club Feni, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd, Team BJMC, Chittagong Abahani Ltd, Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra Ltd, Brothers Union Ltd, Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society, Uttar Baridhara Ltd and Arambagh Krira Sangha will take part in the highest professional football event in the country.
