BD sends 10,000 tonne rice to quake-hit Nepal

PANCHAGARH, June 25: Bangladesh is sending more 10,000 tonne of rice as relief for the earthquake-hit country Nepal under the management of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
Panchagarh district administration with the assistance of the District Food Office has been sending the rice in phases to the country as relief assistance at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Deputy Commissioner Amal Krishna Mandal inaugurated the shipment of 10,000 tonne rice in the second consignment at a ceremony held at Sadar Upazila Local Supply Depot (LSD) Saturday morning. He said 10,000 tonne rice including 4,500 tonne from different LSDs of Panchagarh and 5,500 tonne rice from different LSDs of Dinajpur districts are being sent to Nepal under second consignment that began from Saturday.
Director of the Directorate of Disaster Management Anisur Rahman, Police Super Giasuddin Ahmed, District Food Controller Abdul Kader, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Matiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar LSD Sadek Sarwar were present. On the first day, 20 trucks loaded with 500 tonne of rice from different LSDs in Panchagarh and Dinajpur districts crossed Bangabandhu land port under Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh Saturday.
