Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday told Parliament that the government is trying to find out a way to increase the number of schools under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO).
"Our MPs have been demanding that more schools be brought under MPO. We'll find out a way anyhow in this regard. We're carrying out efforts to have a solution," he said joining the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2016-17 fiscal.
Later, ruling party MP Awami League Atiur Rahman Atik, joining the discussion on the budget in the House, also came up with the same demand.
About the standard of education, the minister said it is not true at all that the quality of education has not improved. "The government is on its strong drive to improve the standard of education further."
To this end, the government now focuses on technical education and the training of teachers, he told the House.
The number of students in technical and vocational education has marked a rise from 1 percent to 13 percent out of the country's total students over the last seven years. The government set a target to increase the number of students to 20 percent by 2020 and 30 percent by 2030.
"We'll have to raise the number of students of technical and vocational education to 60 percent," he said.
Nahid said gender equity has been ensured in the education sector, which is a big achievement of their government.
Now there are some 51 percent girls in primary schools, while 53 percent in secondary schools and 45 percent in the higher education, he said.
Noting that the modern knowledge and the technology are the keys to progress, the minister said the government has taken various steps to build the new generation with modern and technical knowledge.
