Awami Juba League Chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury on Friday alleged that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has frantically been trying to prove that the members of the minority community are not safe in the country unleashing secret killings.
"Khaleda Zia has been in a move to create communal riot in the country," he said while speaking at the special extended meeting of Dhaka City South and North units of Awami Juba League (AJL) at Mohanagar Natyamancha at Gulistan Square in the city.
The meeting was convened to make success the human-chain programme of the 14-party alliance planned from Gabtali to Jatrabari from 3:00pm to 4:00pm on June 19 in protest against the BNP-Jamaat's secret killings.
Dhaka City North AJL president Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil presided over the meeting, also addressed, among others, by AJL general secretary Harun-ar-Rashid, presidium members Dr Ahmed Ali Kabir, Shaheed Serniabat and Faruk Hossain, Dhaka City South AJL president Ismail Chowdhury Samrat, AJL central leader Monirul Islam Howladar and Dhaka City North AJL general secretary Ismail Hossain.
Omar Faruque Chowdhury said, "Begum Zia has devised a plan to create mistrust among the people to make the country unstable. It will not be enough to issue statements blaming militants and IS for secret killings in the country. She should have to clarify her stance so that the panic that has now been haunting the people could be eliminated."
"Bangladesh's image as a secular country is the nation's valuable resource. Begum Zia wants to tarnish that glorious image of the nation. There's no scope left for being soft with those conspirators," the AJL chairman added.
At the function, the AJL chairman also distributed saplings of fruit-bearing and timber trees among leaders and workers of the youth body as part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Tree Plantation Drive.
