Stock market investor commits suicide

Frustration from a loss of about Tk 12 lakh in the stock market allegedly forced Mohiuddin Shahriar to commit suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan on Tuesday night.
The 35-year-old victim was the inhabitant of Shantipara area in Mothertek under Sabujbagh police station of the capital.
Sabujbagh Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy on Wednesday morning.
Ariful Islam, brother-in-law of the deceased, told journalists that Shahriar lost the money he invested in the stock market in 2010 after selling a piece of his inherited land.
The loss augment since then and he gradually became ill both physically and mentally, Ariful added. Solaiman Gazi, Sub-Inspector of the police station, said the victim might have committed suicide out of frustration. It will be clear after getting the autopsy report, he added.
According to the media report, at least 15 investors either committed suicide or died of heart failure since the stock market debacle in 2010.
