Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has called Khaleda Zia ‘a liar and a thief’.

His retaliation has come a day after the BNP chief asked about the source of money allegedly kept in one of his bank accounts ‘mentioned’ in case files related to a plot to abduct and kill him.

“Madam, if you know where the $300 million is, please let me know,” Joy told Khaleda in a Facebook post on Sunday, adding, “I would like to donate it to orphans.”

Protesting against journalist Shafik Rehman’s arrest and referring to the imprisonment of a US BNP leader’s son over the conspiracy, Khaleda on Saturday said, “An expatriate Bangladeshi youth collected some information on Bangladesh’s incumbent prime minister’s son by bribing an FBI agent.”

“The case files say there is $300 million, which is equal to Tk 25 billion, in an account of the prime minister’s son. Where did this money come from? What is the source of this money?” she asked.

In his response, Joy wrote on his Facebook page, “A woman who has stolen money from orphans, one whose son is a fugitive accused by the FBI for corruption, really should not be throwing mud at Bangabandhu’s grandson.”

Khaleda’s late son Arafat Rahman Coco was convicted in a money laundering case.

Hinting at the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which she is being tried as the main accused, Prime Minister Hasina has been saying that Khaleda had ‘stolen orphans’ money’.
Several hours before Joy posted the status, Khaleda at a rally on Sunday afternoon also alleged that the Awami League government secretly moved abroad Tk 300 billion in the past seven years.

Joy said, “Your henchmen Mahumudur Rahman and Shafiq Rahman stole secret FBI documents listing all my bank accounts but could not find it. The military regime of 1/11 who arrested my mother could not find it. Even the FBI could not find it.

“That’s because I have never had anything close to $300 million. I am not that rich.”

“Khaleda Zia, on other hand, is a liar and a thief,” Joy, who also advises her mother on ICT affairs, said.
