Customs officials detained a passenger from Bangkok and seized about 2.380 kg gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday noon.
The detainee was identified as Sharif Zakir Hossain, 39, son of Abul Kashem of Shariatpur district
Officials at the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) said Sharif arrived at the airport by a flight of Thai Airways from Bangkok at noon.
Acting on a tip-off, officials of the CIID detained the passenger from the belt no. 4 of the customs hall, said director general of CIID Moinul Khan.
He said searching the body of Sharif Zakir, a frequent flyer, customs intelligence officials recovered three bars which were concealed inside his pair of shoes and belt.
The recovered gold weighs around 2.380 kg and the present market value of the gold is around TK 1.25 crore.
