KHULNA, Apr 25: Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Nasima Begum here on Sunday said women are participating in different challenging professions during the tenure of the present government.
She said, currently method of services are changing; so women's hands should be turned into workers' hands.
As chief guest, she was addressing an award-giving ceremony to the best 'Joyeeta' of Khulna division in observance of the International Women Repression Protection and Begum Rokeya Day-2016 at the CSS Ava Centre in the city.
Under the activities of Joyeeta searching in Bangladesh by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Khulna divisional administration organised the function with the cooperation of the Department of Women Affairs.
Secretary Nasima Begum said the Joyeeta award ceremony has been running with the initiative of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since 2011.
With the aim of women empowerment and their participation in every sector in the society, the government decided to honour the women who are keeping outstanding performance at their respective fields.
The women rights are reserved in No. 7 goal out of 17 millennium development goals (MDGs), she said adding that the Prime Minister will give award to five 'Joyeetas' in five categories of seven departments.
She further said that only Bangladesh government is running the Joyeeta activities and in this connection, the government has taken special programmes.
Currently seven women secretaries are working at the secretariat, she added.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad chaired the programme, while Director of the Department of Women Affairs Shahnewaz Dilruba Khan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Nazmul Ahsan, DC of Jessore Dr. Humayun Kabir, and Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Ferdousi Begum were present at special guests.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) of Khulna Md. Faruk Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
Later, the chief guest distributed awards among 52 'Joyeetas' including five of Khulna Division for their outstanding performance in five categories.
