A vacation bench of the High Court on Monday deferred the hearing on a petition filed seeking judicial probe into
the killing of Comilla Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu, referring it for a hearing at a regular bench after the vacation.

Earlier, the petition was dropped from the cause list of the HC for three times on April 12, April 13 and April 20 last.

As the petition was placed before the vacation bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Selim, they referred the petition for
a hearing at a regular bench after the vacation, petitioner Yunus Ali Akand told reporters on Monday.

The HC is set to resume its regular activities on May 2 and the petition will be placed for a hearing at a regular bench after that,he added.

Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akand filed the writ petition with the High Court on April 3, seeking its directives on the government to arrest the killers of Tonu within 24 hours and constitute a judicial probe body to look into the murder incident.

Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Comilla Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead at Mynamati Cantonment of Comilla on March 20 after she went of her residence for private tuition.
