Country's largest ever limestone quarry has been discovered at Tajpur villag in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district.

Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources, came up with the disclosure  at a press briefing  at the secretariat Thursday afternoon.

"Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) has confirmed me about the discovery. The Prime Minister was also informed about the matter," the state minister said.

The deposit was found at a stretch of 50 square kilometres area under 2,214 feet below the surface.

"Drilling is going on now and to be continued. The quantum of reserve will be known after completion of drilling," the junior minister said.

Once production starts commercially, it will be able to meet the entire demand of the country's cement factories while Bangladesh will be able to export limestone rather import, he added.
