Bus collision kills 12 in Rangpur

At least 12 people were killed and over 50 injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Taraganj upazila of Rangpur on Wednesday.

Eight of the deceased were identified as : Lion, 25,  Motin, 35, Mohammad Ali, Mizanur Rahman,40, and Alebuddin from Nilphamari, Abdul from Rangpur, Chandan Roy, 35, from Panchagarh and Ekabbor Ali, 65, from Lalmonirhat.

Identities of four others including two women could not be known yet.

Of the injured, condition of 36 including two children are stated critical, hospital sources said.

Taraganj thana OC Abdul Latif said the accident took place in Ikorchali area on the Rangpur-Dinajpur road at about 11am.

He said a Rangpur-bound bus of Tripti Paribahan collided head-on with another bus bound for Dinajpur at about 11am, leaving 10 killed on the spot while two in hospital.

Fire fighters rescued the injured and sent to hospital, the OC said.
