The
government is planning establishment of revenue offices at all upzillas
to facilitate people the opportunities of paying taxes without facing
much hassles and increase mobilisation of internal resources. "The
next budget will have a programme for establishing tax offices at 495
upzillas", Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith told a pre-budget
discussion with Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF), held at his secretariat
office on Sunday. The minister said under the programme the tax offices
would be set up at all the upzillas within a timeframe to be specified
at the next budget. Underlining the need for expediting revenue
income, Muhith said the coming budget would also have some particular
measures to help increase revenue income and offer people much easier
ways of paying taxes. For instance, he said the use of ECR
(electronic cash register) would be made mandatory to protect the rights
of the consumers and at the same time facilitating businesses calculate
and pay VAT (value added tax) without going through cumbersome manual
calculation process. He, however, pointed out that the VAT would not be
included to the selling prices of goods and services because it would
diminish the consumers' responsibilities of tax payment. ?BSS
