3 killed in Cox's Bazar cargo plane crash

A cargo aircraft crashed into the Bay in the tourist resort district of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday morning, leaving its pilot and two officers killed and another injured.

The critically injured co-pilot of the plane was admitted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

The identities of the deceased are primarily disclosed as cargo pilot captain Gufre alias Murad, first officer Evan and  flight engineer Androy. All the dead and injured are Russian citizens.

Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police Shyamol Kumar Nath said the Jessore-bound cargo plane of True Airways was carrying a consignment  of shrimp fry.

A few minutes after the plane took off from the airport at 9:00am, the aircraft showed an emergency signal.

Later, the pilot tried to land the plane following control room's instruction. But, it crashed and fell into the sea at the Nazirtek point, leaving captain Gufre, 40, dead, one injured while two went missing.

Members of Fire Service and police and two Navy ships alongwith local people started searching soon after the accident.

Bodies of the missing officers were recovered from the wreckage of the plane in Sonadia area at about 3:30pm.
