The mother of the two dead siblings of Dhaka’s Rampura has confessed to killing two of her children, says the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

"Their mother Mahfuza Malek Jasmine made the confession during interrogation", RAB Additional Director General Ziaul Ahsan told bdnews24.com.

When asked whether the father Amanullah too was involved, he said, “We are yet to be certain about that. He is being questioned.”

Another RAB official said that usually family feud or mental distress led to such murders.

“We will provide further details at a media briefing,” RAB’s legal and media wing chief Mufti Mahmud Khan told bdnews24.com.

Nusrat Aman Oroni, 14, and her brother Alvi Aman, 6, were found unconscious at their Banasree home on the afternoon of Feb 29. Doctors declared them dead after they were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The family had claimed that they died after eating the leftovers of food brought from a local Chinese restaurant the previous night.

But forensic experts at DMCH found bruises and finger prints on their throats as well as injury marks on several parts of their bodies during the autopsy the next day.

The development led RAB to join the investigation, which picked up the parents, an aunt of the siblings from Jamalpur on Wednesday and brought them to Dhaka for questioning.
