Muslin Festival starts at National Museum

The Muslin Festival started at the Nalini Kanto Bhattasali Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) on February 5. Inaugural ceremony of the festival was held at the Main Auditorium of the museum. It will last a month and has been jointly organised by Bangladesh National Museum, Drik Picture Ltd and Brac (Aarong). Financial Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit was present as chief guest at the inauguration of the festival. Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present as special guest at the event. Saiful Islam, chief executive of Drik Picture Limited; Rose Merry, senior curator of Victoria Albert Museum, London; Tamara Ali, senior director of Brac Enterprise were present as guests of honour at the event. Two special stamps were unveiled at the event. M Azizur Rahm delivered the vote of thanks at the event where state minister of Ministry of Cultural Affairs Aktari Momtaz delivered the welcome speech.
Speakers related to the devastation of Muslin industry by the British government during the colonial era. They hoped that the current festival will revive the epoch making legacy of Bengal's Muslin and establish at as a world heritage to be enlisted by UNESCO.
