Spring brings colour

After the dryness of winter, new leaves start to come out again and the nature adorns the branches with new colorful flowers such as Shimul, Polash and Marigold. Especially the "Krishnachura" brings the news of spring or Basonto first. It brings joys and colours both in nature and life. The season enthuses the Bengali to celebrate it with utmost passion.
With the Basonto approaching fast, like every year, preparations are going on to welcome it.
Pahela Falgun, the first day of the Bengali month Falgun, heralds a new change to the nature. It provides the respite from the colourless monotony of winter and from the harsher, longer days of heat and humidity that await us.
It's a great idea to be colourful and traditional in this day. It's a regular scene for every year. People wear colourful clothes on this day. One can opt for shades in yellow, orange, red, green, reddish brown but the latest trend is chosen with the combination of white, off white pink, purple or blue also. Pahela Falgun is the occasion to show your elegance in classic Bengali attire. So women should choose sarees or salwar kameezes and boys should go in colourful panjabis. The weather is comparatively warmer during daytime so it's better to select outfit in cotton, kota, khaadi, cotton katan or crepe. Fashion houses Rang, Anjans, Arong, Kay Kraft, Deshal, Nogordola etc has arranged wide ranges of special Basonto collection.
Without ornaments, women's get up can't be fulfilled. Women may select flower jewelries on Pahela Falgun. Fresh flowers are iconic symbols of Pahela Falgun. A woman's appearance is incomplete without floral ornaments or flowers adorning the hair. Flowers also can be used to decorate women's hand or neck. Women can find flower shops at Shahbagh, Dhanmondi, Farmgate, Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas. Otherwise colourful clay, bronze or antique ornaments can add in the list of jewelries for the day. If anyone is planning to go outdoors for big period he/she must choose something comfortable when it comes to footwear. Women love heels, but it will be best to opt flats to go outside for a long time on the 13th of February.
For bags, women should try to go for a large clutch. As it will be a warm day, one needs to keep few things with her always to maintain beautiful face or hairstyle. It would be best not to carry a heavy bag with sarees but, for the salwar kameezes, these will be fine. Moreover, one has to keep in mind about home decor also. It is the first day of spring so one needs to bring some freshness at home. If one has an indoor plan it's a great idea to fill up the empty vases with flowers of the season and place these near, where seating arrangements for guests. To get a festive look one needs to change cushions, curtains or covers in colours of falgun like different shades of red, orange or yellow. But, all these arrangements will fail extremely if the house doesn't smell of freshness. Here flowery scented air fresheners will help ones. This Bengali festive will not fulfill without feast.
Spring, the king of all seasons, observes always across the country with flowers, poems, songs and dances. People can go out and enjoy the day, on the other hand, parents should let their child go outside to see the Bangladeshi culture. Several socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions organize a wide range of programmes marking the day. Bakultola in the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukala) of Dhaka University is the center point of the festival. Thousands of young men and women gather in the morning and celebrate the day by singing songs, performing poems and dancing. The entire Dhaka University campus and the Ekushey Boi Mela area are the best places to hang out with friends and family members on this day. One can also visit Rabindra Sharobar to join the festivity at the Dhanmondi Lake. Jatiya Basonto Utshab Udjapan Parishad arranges the main programmes of the day for around two decades.
