"Sanskriti Kendro," the revered musical destination headed by maestro Azad Rahman received the life-time achievement award during the "Bangla Kheyal Uthsob 2016" on January 31 at Channel i Bhavan, Tejgaon Industrial Area in the city. Azad Rahman received the award from Shykh Seraj, news editor of Channel i. The festival was arranged for the second time by Channel i and it ended on February 1. Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Channel i and Impress Telefilm was present at the inaugural ceremony of the festival. Musical icons Salahuddin Ahmed and Ferdous Ara were also present in the festival.
During the festival artistes from both the younger generation and experienced background rendered the traditional Kheyal songs of Bangla music under the guidance of Azad Rahman. Khairul Anam Shakil, Shaheen Samad, Dr Asit Rai, Yousuff Ahmed Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Ustad Karim Shahabuddin, Dr Nashid Kamal, Dr Lina Taposhi Khan, Dr Harun Ur Rashid, Daliya Nawshin, Dr Shaila Tasnim, Priyanka Gope, Sharnamoy Chakraborty, Dr Mintu Krishna, Tanjina Karim, Alif Laila were prominent in rendering the "Kheyal" sessions of the festival illuminating. They were assisted by Firoz Khan on Sitar, Yousuff Khan with his Sarod, Gazi Abdul Hakim on flute and finally by Anannya Ruma, who emceed the festival through till the end.
On his feelings about receiving the prize Azad Rahman said, "There is nothing more deserving for a musician when he tries to pay proper respect to the spirits of the Language Movement and the Liberation War."
